LAPLACE — Traffic on Airline Highway in LaPlace was halted briefly Friday afternoon to allow a medical helicopter to land on the roadway near Frostop.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, medical personnel responded to the area after receiving a call for an unresponsive infant.

The child was taken to Ochsner Hospital-River Parishes and pronounced dead, authorities said.

Officials say the death is unclassified pending an autopsy, but there are no suspicious circumstances.
