Poche’: Libraries book January of fun

January will be an exciting time at St. John the Baptist Parish Library.
In celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, the Garyville Branch will be hosting a Movie Matinee at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 9, when “Selma, Lord, Selma” will be shown and patrons of all ages are encouraged to attend.
The Reserve Branch will be hosting a Family Night at 6 p.m. Jan. 12. Parents are invited to make “I Have a Dream Mobiles” with their children and enjoy a night of fun. The Reserve Branch will also be showing “Selma” at 10 a.m. Jan. 14. All patrons are welcome to watch this extraordinary movie.
The Central Library will be introducing new adult program “A Better You: Your Way,” allowing all adult patrons to come out and share healthy eating habits and ideas for a structured weight loss goal setting. It will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 11. Suggestions and ideas will be welcomed for future fitness and wellness programs.
Computer classes will also be offered to all adult patrons every Wednesday for 10 a.m.
Tweens and teens are invited to come out at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 to make Nebula Jars. Nebulas are created using old glass jars and ingredients such as cotton, paint and glitter to create a beautiful galaxy.
Doggy lovers are invited to come out at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 to make T-Shirt Dog Toys. Game of Thrones inspired Dragon Eggs will be a crafted at 6 p.m. Jan. 30. Tweens and teens will use thumb tacks and styrofoam to create dragon eggs that look like they came out of the fantasy novel.
Children’s programs will consist of Storytime every Friday morning at 10:30 a.m., Books & Beyond at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 12 and 26 and Kreative Kidz at 10 a.m. Jan. 21.
The Reserve Branch will host their monthly Make Shoppe at 6 p.m. Jan. 9. Patrons will create decorative ceramic tiles to display in their homes.
The Morning Movie Matinee will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 12 when “The Legend of Tarzan” is shown for adult patrons.
Tweens and teens are invited to create Make-Up Organizers at 5 p.m. Jan. 26. Children’s programs will include the Wee Readers’ Book Club every Wednesday. On Jan. 4 and 25, it will begin at 11 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 18.
The Garyville Branch will host their Tablet/E-Reader Tutoring for adult patrons at 2 p.m. Jan. 6. Tweens and teens are invited to come out at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 5 to conduct and cite Acrostic Poetry, which is used to improve memory and have fun doing it. They will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their art skills by painting a Winter Scene at 5 p.m. Jan. 30.
Children programs will include Pajama Evening Storytime, which will be held on every Thursday in January at 5 p.m., and Toddler Storytime on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m.
The Edgard Branch remains closed for renovations during the holiday season. Patrons can visit the other library branches to check out materials, use the computers and enjoy adult, tween, teen and children’s programming.
