RESERVE — Elementary school students in St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools recently got a head start on college and career planning.
Students from various schools attended a presentation at East St. John High School by Dillard University student-athletes, who spoke about the pillars of character and how hard it is to be an athlete and compete on the collegiate level.
Students were given the opportunity to ask questions and take pictures with the visitors.
Among the schools making campus visits was LaPlace Elementary School, whose eighth-graders visited Southeastern Louisiana University.
They toured the campus, ate in the student union and learned how to try out for student activities.
Kris Hobbs, of the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid, spoke to eighth graders about college tuition and how to obtain financial aid.
