- Sept. 19, 1974: Members of the Cox’s Meat Market bowling team display the second place trophies they won in the seventh annual Champion of Champions Team Handicap Tournament at Expressway Lanes. Team members are, front row, from left, Terry Cambre, Danny Rome, back row, Dale Cox, Marvin Levet and Jimmy Tassin, captain. The team received $325.
Sept. 20, 1984: St. John the Baptist Parish Council Chairman Joel McTopy awarded Guy Madere the Citizen Exemplary Award. Madere was veterans administrator for St. John Parish for 22 years. McTopy described Madere as ‘a very outstanding person. He is very diligent in handling job functions. We, the council, felt the parish had to recognize him because he is a man who is always there when you need him.’
Sept. 22, 2004: Third graders at Fifth Ward Elementary achieving ‘Rising Reader’ status include, back, Robert McCorvey, Reneisha Diggs, Karisma Stewart, Leslie Collins, front, D’Vante Young, Sydney Toney, Hy’Keem Martin and Leuquanna Coleman.
