Memorial service and visitation will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. John Parish Community Center, 2900 U.S. 51 in LaPlace. A procession will leave the center at approximately 1 p.m. and escort Chauvin to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard for a mass at 2:30 p.m. and burial on the church grounds thereafter.
During the procession, beginning around 12:45 p.m., Airline Highway will be completely closed to through traffic between U.S. 51 and Gramercy. Motorists should use an alternate route for this period of time. Community members and outside agencies who are wishing to pay respect to Chauvin are encouraged to line alongside the roadway during the procession. (Click for route).
District Chief Chauvin was killed in the line of duty Sunday morning after a life dedicated to public service and his family.
“We lost one of the bravest and most dedicated firefighters that I know,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. “Our thoughts, prayers and full support go out to his family, as well as to the families of the other 2 firefighters involved in the accident. Please continue to pray for all involved and please pray for our community.”
