Schools opening in St. John Parish Thursday; closed in St. James Parish

RESERVE — St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District officials announced schools will reopen Thursday.
School District officials said they would continue monitoring water levels and make changes if it becomes necessary.
“However, at this point, emergency officials have assured us that the risk of major flooding in our parish is minimal and that the activity residents see taking place around the parish is purely precautionary,” a release from the School District said.
St. Charles Catholic School announced it would open Thursday, starting with A period and following a regular schedule.
Riverside Academy officials said classes would resume Thursday, as well.
“We will closely monitor the threat of rising water throughout the day and make necessary changes if our students or staff are placed in any danger,” the school announced on Facebook.
Other schools that announced they are opening Thursday include St. Peter Catholic School in Reserve, Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School in LaPlace and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in LaPlace.
The St. James Parish School System has announced that all public schools will be closed Thursday for all students and personnel.
St. Peter Chanel Interparochial School will be closed on Thursday, as well.
St. James Parish Government has created a webpage to provide a one-stop-shop for information concerning preparations underway to mitigate any potential flooding.
