Assorted drugs, stolen weapon, cash seized from LaPlace couple’s home, police say

LAPLACE — A local couple is facing numerous criminal charges after police said they confiscated drugs, cash and a stolen weapon from their home.

A release from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office says the department’s Special Operations Division executed a search Friday at 1047 Balsam St. in LaPlace.

Detectives said they seized approximately 580 grams of marijuana, a stolen 40 Caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, two digital scales, two sandwich bag boxes, approximately eight ounces of promethazine, approximately two grams of methamphetamine, two hydrocodone tablets, approximately 74 tramadol tablets, approximately 91 MDMA tablets, 700 grams of synthetic marijuana and approximately $900 in cash.

Arrested during the search was Lorenzo Porter, 31, and his girlfriend, Juanita Joseph, 39.

Through its investigation, Special Operations Division discovered Porter was using the residence to store and distribute marijuana and cocaine and was in possession of firearms.

A computer check revealed Porter is a convicted felon, and Joseph had an outstanding warrant.

Porter remains in custody in lieu of a $214,000 bond. He has been arrested more than 30 times in St. John Parish since April 2002, authorities reported.

Joseph is being held in custody in lieu of an $189,150 bond.

Porter is charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of firearm/ carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, distribution of MDMA, possession with intent to distribute tramadol, possession of hydrocodone, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, sale, distribution or possession of legend drug without a prescription and possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia.

Joseph is charged with possession with intent to distribute MDMA, possession with intent to distribute tramadol, possession of hydrocodone, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, sale, distribution or possession of legend drug without a prescription, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, illegal carrying of weapon with controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court.
