NEW ORLEANS — After a couple of logistical delays, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputy Jason Triche finally got his new kidney last week.
Triche received a donated kidney from St. Tammany Parish Deputy Robert “Andre” Ardeneau Friday at Ochsner Hospital in Jefferson. The procedure went as planned with no complications, according to family members and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Even better news, according to Triche’s sister, Chasity Triche-Armstrong, “the kidney kicked in immediately, which doctors say is rare. God is good.”
Triche was shot and severely wounded during an ambush shooting of several St. John deputies in August of 2012. Deputies Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche were killed. Triche and Michael Scott Boyington were wounded.
Triche has undergone more than 30 surgeries since then. He had been going to dialysis three times a week as his kidneys began to fail.
In March, Triche-Armstrong posted a plea on Facebook, asking for potential donors. The response was tremendous, but Triche was still searching for a match.
Ardeneau recently decided to look into live donation after meeting a donor-to-be on a recent cruise. After several days of grueling testing, Ardeneau was found to be a match for Triche.
“Once I found out who it was, it kind of made it a lot easier for me,” Ardeneau previously said.
“If I was in his situation, I would hope that somebody would step up to the plate and do it for me. I couldn’t think of a better person to give it to. He literally almost sacrificed his life for his community.”
