2 land in hospitals following St. John gun violence

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating two shootings that resulted in local men being taken to the hospital.
Deputies were alerted to the first shooting at 1 a.m. Sunday when they responded to the 300 block of West 2nd Street in LaPlace after gunshots were heard in the area. Deputies were told someone had been shot at the scene. They were later notified that a 33-year-old male victim was at Ochsner health center’s emergency room in LaPlace.
The victim told investigators he was shot when returning to his car after attending a family birthday celebration.
The victim was treated for his injuries and released.
Deputies were alerted to the second shooting at 11:30 p.m. Monday after responding to the emergency room of St. James Parish Hospital for a gunshot victim.
The victim, a 17-year-old male, sustained gunshot wounds to the forearm and calf. The victim was transported to a New Orleans area hospital for treatment.
Deputies were told the victim was with his 16-year-old male friend when he was shot.
The victim’s truck was located by deputies in a parking lot in Reserve. The truck had gunshot holes on the driver side door and blood on the driver’s seat.
St. John Parish authorities said the investigations are ongoing and did not release any suspect information.
