EDGARD — A St. John the Baptist Parish man was sentenced to seven years in jail this week, the result of his guilty plea for illegal possession of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance, according to District Attorney Bridget A. Dinvaut.
Trey Creecy, 30, of LaPlace, pleaded guilty Tuesday, with Judge Mary Hotard Becnel presiding over his case.
Creecy was arrested June 3, 2013, following a three-week investigation that included a search of Creecy’s home at 156 Phoenix Lane in LaPlace. Authorities said they discovered marijuana, a Springfield Armory XD .40 caliber handgun with a laser sight and a 30-round extended magazine that contained 18 rounds of live .40 caliber ammunition.
Creecy lived at the residence with his girlfriend and four children, who ranged in age from 2 months to 8 years old, authorities said, adding Creecy confessed to detectives he was in possession of the contraband.
Creecy was booked with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of CDS in the presence of a juvenile and possession of a stolen firearm.
“Creecy attempted to suppress evidence of his crime, but after Judge Mary Becnel heard testimony of former detective Justin Bordelon and detective Richard Dubus, all evidence was ruled admissible and the case was set for trial,” a release from Dinvaut’s office said. “Choosing not to face a St. John jury, Creecy agreed to accept the prosecution team’s offer of seven years with the Department of Corrections, which is to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence pursuant to state law.”
Assistant District Attorney J. Philip Prescott Jr. led the prosecution, and Peter “Q” John represented Creecy.
