Thomas Leighton Livingston Jr., 59, of LaPlace, passed away at his home on May 25, 2016, with his loving family by his side.

He was born Nov. 19, 1956 in Johnstown, Penn.

Tom joyfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 30 years. He served as an elder for 15 years and locally as a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in LaPlace.

He was baptized on Nov. 14, 1987, and spent 22 years zealously preaching full time in the volunteer ministry. He also volunteered for many years in helping to build Kingdom Halls for other Jehovah’s Witnesses in different parts of the state.

Not only was Tom a man who loved life, he was also a man who held family and friends very close to him. This, coupled with his strong faith in his Heavenly Father, Jehovah, Tom encouraged and motivated everyone that knew him.

He thoroughly enjoyed teaching others about the Bible, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Tom was an entrepreneur for many years, utilizing many of his natural talents ranging from photography to landscaping. Following his spinal cord injury in 1997, Tom decided to use his disability to support others in need.

He served as ADA Coordinator in St. John Parish for over 16 years. He funded grants and advocated on behalf of all disabled citizens; advising them on eligible programs and educating them on assistance to better their quality of life.

He consulted local businesses on how to best assist and serve the disabled in the community. He loved helping others and was a truly a devoted and dedicated influence to all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Nancy (Evans) Livingston; three daughters, Cammy Livingston, Priscilla (Eldwyn Jr) Branch, and Brittany (Darius “Biff”) Branch; one son, Timothy Livingston; two grandchildren Nevaeh and Eldwyn; three sisters, Debbie Sadler (Jim) of Penn Run, Penn., Denise (Bob) Kissler of Sarver, Penn., Sabina (Timothy) Booker of Swedesboro, N.J.; three brothers, Marty Livingston of Edensburg, Penn., Joel (Kristen) Livingston of New Paris, Penn., and J.C. (Renee) Livingston of Bedford, Penn.; and also a number of nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his father, Thomas Livingston Sr. (Mary Lou) of Johnstown, Penn., and his mother Hildegard (Graf) Chatterjee of Lindenwold, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Timothy Livingston, at birth.

A memorial service for Thomas L. Livingston Jr. will be held on Saturday, May 28 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 500 Colony Park Drive in LaPlace at 3 p.m. with Brother Reginald Barnes officiating.
