RESERVE — A hip hop showcase is taking place Saturday to show off local talent and, hopefully, help musicians further their careers in the music industry.

The showcase — Swaggd Out Boyz presents ‘It Goes Down Da in Parish’ — is being put on by Reserve’s Swaggd Out Boyz.

The event runs from 7 p.m. until midnight Saturday at the St. John Theater in Reserve and features 13 acts for residents to enjoy, including the Swaggd Out Boyz and headliners Ghetto Twiinz out of New Orleans.

Karrick Carter, Swaggd Out Boyz member, said the local group has held performances in Beverly Hills, Houston and Austin, Texas, with the Ghetto Twiinz.

The Swaggd Out Boyz perform original music, which is a mixture of rap with R&B. Carter said the showcase isn’t just a rap show, adding there will be singers, as well.

“We wanted to bring performers from all over for the showcase,” Carter said. “ We wanted to bring artists together from all over and have some unity. There is also going to be talent (agents) there. That’s one of the main reasons we’re putting on the show so that the artists can meet people that can help them get to the next level.”

Carter said tickets are available by calling 504-307-0055 or 985-212-1467. The price is $25, or a group of five can purchase in bulk for $20 a ticket.

Tickets are also available at the door.

“The reason that I’m excited for the music showcase is because, from my understanding, it’s one of the biggest events that have been held at the St. John Theatre,” Carter said. “I really want the pubic to come out to the show, because I want them to see what happens when a lot of artists get together. People should come out to hear some good music.”

The event, which is for residents 21 and up, will have strict security.

Carter said he hopes the Swaggd Out Boyz and the music showcase get a lot of support from the community and surrounding area.
