The River Parishes community continues to show a healthy respect for our Armed Forces, our veterans and the symbols that define our nations as the world’s best.
Benny Robichaux, sergeant at-arms for American Legion Post 383, is the latest local resident taking the time promote what’s special to him and so many others.
The LaPlace man is sponsoring an educational program about the American Flag and its proper handling.
His effort — detailed this week in Wednesday’s L’OBSERVATEUR — begins at 2 p.m. June 11 (the Saturday before Flag Day June 14) at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve.
It’s open to all.
Robichaux hopes to educate and restore a renewed respect and reverence for the Flag as a living thing, and its meaning to the rest of the world as a symbol of hope.
The program will show how the worn and tattered flag flying, will be taken down with reverence, and properly made ready for its retirement and disposal.
Robichaux’s first time community project works as nice counterpart to Friday’s Memorial Day Breakfast, which is also open to all in the community.
Put on by Get High on Life, the 18th annual event kicks off at 8 a.m. at the KC Home at 346 Fir St. in LaPlace.
Organizers plan to pay tribute to the men and women who served our country and defended the many freedoms we enjoy today.
A special emphasis will be placed on remembering those who gave their lives while fighting to keep our country free.
All members of the VFW, the American Legion and the public are invited to attend with their families.
