PRAIRIEVILLE — A St. James man is facing multiple charges following his arrest today relating the death of a Harvey resident last weekend on Interstate 10.
Louisiana State Police troopers arrested 25-year-old Brodnick Whittington of St. James for his connection to the death of 35-year-old Jenise Williams of Harvey.
Troop A spokesman Bryan Lee said Whittington was arrested for felony hit and run, obstruction of justice, driving under suspension and open container.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Troopers responded to Interstate 10 westbound east of Louisiana 73 for a single-vehicle crash involving a 1997 Ford F150.
The vehicle had been moved from the original crash scene, Lee said, and Troopers located it parked on the shoulder with heavy damage to the front end. Troopers were able to determine Whittington was the driver of the vehicle, but he left the scene prior to authorities’ arrival, Lee said.
“Troopers made contact with Whittington by phone, but he refused to return to the scene,” Lee said. “After Whittington refused to return to the scene, Troopers impounded his vehicle for further investigation.”
At approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday, a grass cutting crew located Jenise Williams’ body in the median of Interstate 10 west of the Louisiana 74 overpass.
Troopers, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, State Police Crime Lab and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to process the scene. Troopers located evidence consistent with a crash. Based on the information collected , Lee said Troopers determined Williams was struck by a vehicle.
Lee said Troopers connected the scene of Williams’ body with the scene of Whittington’s vehicle, which were located approximately a quarter mile apart.
Whittington was located shortly before 2 p.m. today in Gonzales, arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish jail.
