Keller: Quarterly devotionals have impact behind bars

Published 12:08 am Wednesday, May 11, 2016

For the past six years, every three months I’ve distributed 200 quarterly devotionals titled “The Word for You Today.”

It has a spiritual message for each day that shares the Good News of God’s Word. I, personally, hand out many to family and friends and mail the others to people throughout the country.

While visiting one of my friends who was incarcerated in a federal penitentiary, he asked if I would send a few to him to give to some of the men who meet regularly in a Bible sharing group.

Since then, I’ve mailed at least 30 devotionals every three months for the past five years.

A few of the men, upon release, have kept in touch with me and request that I continue to send them a devotional.

You never know how many lives, if any, are changed because of jail ministries.

Last week, I received the following letter from one of the inmates about to be released:

“Hello Bro. Harold,

As of May 23rd, I will be on my way home. I will then be on home confinement. My family is more than ready to welcome me home. My son has an app on his phone counting down the days.

Thank you! Thank you! for the devotionals. They are such a blessing to me. Please know you are planting seed in good soil.

I am faithful and will continue to be faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. These little books have encouraged and instructed me when I needed it.

It has allowed me to share with others the great wisdom of God.

Thanks again for your faithfulness in this ministry. May God richly bless you!

Blessings,

(Name Withheld)

P.S.  I’ve enclosed my home address.”
