LAPLACE — Summer is quickly approaching, and the St. John Parish Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for summer programs and new activities for residents of all ages.

Register for programs by visiting the Parks & Recreation Office at 200 Regala Park Road in LaPlace or calling 985-652-9569.

Soccer Camp

Parks & Recreation will be hosting a free youth soccer camp May 7 at Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park in LaPlace. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Session 1 will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and Session 2 will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Summer Camp

Registration is open for the St. John the Baptist Parish Summer Camp for youth ages 4 through 14. The camp is held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, beginning June 6 and ending July 14. The registration fee is $150 for the six-week camp.

Daily activities include arts and crafts, team sports, swimming, academic enrichment, games, field trips and more. The registration deadline is May 20.

Lunch will be provided through the St. John Parish Summer Feeding Program. Eastbank and Westbank sites included.

Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics is being offered from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. this summer on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The program is suitable for every age and fitness level.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Does your child ages 5-14 enjoy twirling a ribbon or playing with a hula hoop?

If so, this new program being offered is perfect hobby for your little one.

If they like the benefits of dance and ballet blended with a unique blend of gymnastics, register them at 6 p.m. May 9 at the Recreation Office.

Lifeguards

Certified lifeguards are needed, and applications are being accepted. If not certified, assistance with the certification process will be provided.

More information on free swimming lessons through the Ashley Kelly Swimming Program will be released once confirmed.
