LAPLACE — After he attempted to break into a home in his own neighborhood, authorities said, a local teen is behind bars, booked with simple burglary and simple criminal damage to property.
Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish received a 911 call from a neighbor of a possible residential burglary in progress at 10:44 a.m. Thursday and responded to the 1600 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace.
When deputies arrived in the area they saw a subject fleeing on foot that matched the description of the suspect.
The suspect seen fleeing was detained and upon further investigation, authorities said, identified as Kelvin Thomas, 17, of Yorketowne Drive.
Sgt. Dane Clement said there were no other suspects in this case.
“When deputies met with the homeowner later, the victim reported nothing stolen at the time of the report,” he said.
“No one was at the residence at the time of the burglary.”
Thomas remains in custody in lieu of a $36,000 bond.
