WorkReady U provides path to equivalency diploma, jobs

RESERVE — South Central Louisiana Technical College offers a WorkReady U (GED) program that prepares students to obtain their high school equivalency diploma and provides skills to guide them to the workforce.

The Accelerated Opportunities Program is an option to begin a college career while finishing the WRU or GED Program. The program encourages and enables students to obtain their equivalency and technical training at the same time.

Dean Penny Freeman recently addressed a group of students, and department heads Antoinette Marsalis, business office administration; Terry Carmouche, A.C. and refrigeration; Annette Thornton, developmental studies; and Earl Doninique, welding were on hand to provide information on each aspect of the program.

Also in attendance were WRU instructor William McGee, transitional coordinator Lei Lani Michel and paraeducator Cynthia Fortner.

In order to apply, students must be at least 18. Registration is as easy as providing a valid driver’s license, Social Security card and $25 payment. SCL Technical College also offers one semester of free tuition to kick start a student to success.
