GARYVILLE — Perry’s Posse is hosting it third annual garage sale to help residents of the River Parishes suffering from different types of cancers.

The three-day garage sale lasts from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Garyville Gym on Church Street in Garyville.

Pastalaya will be sold for $5 a bowl starting at 11 a.m. Saturday for an additional fundraiser.

Tanya Roccaforte helped create Perry’s Posse after her godchild died of leukemia in 2014. All garage sale proceeds go towards the organization.

“The money will be distributed throughout our patients throughout the year,” Roccaforte said. “We send finical gifts on days like Christmas, Easter and their birthdays. Twice a year, we have a $500 drawing where we pick a number and whoever’s name is on the other side is given a check. Most of the proceeds throughout the year, until we have another fundraiser, go back towards our patients in the River Parishes.”

Roccaforte said the first garage sale in 2014 raised more than $7,000.

“Last year we made over $5,000,” she said. “Every year we try to beat ourselves. We are hoping to go over last year’s profit. We would like to reach $10,000 but we know it might be hard this year with the weather. God might make it happen, he has done miracles for us before.”

People from all of the River Parishes have donated items to the garage sale to help raise money, Roccaforte said.

“We have infant and toddler clothes,” she said. “We have furniture, kitchen items, bath items, electronics, shoes, toys and, I mean, really anything you can think of. We have everything expect for husbands and adult clothes.”

All of the unsold items from the three-day garage sale go to a local organization that helps battered women.

“Perry’s Posse strives hard to do as many fundraisers as we can,” Roccaforte said. “Our funds stay at a level pace, because we are always getting new patients.

“We like to keep at least $10,000. We need to give back, that’s all there is to it. We try to give our patients as much as we can. We want people to know that their donations to us help us give back to our community.”
