The Blood Center’s urging the community to come together to replenish the blood supply after Tuesday’s storm.

The majority of blood drives scheduled between Tuesday and Thursday were cancelled due to devastation resulting from adverse weather conditions experienced throughout Southern Louisiana and Mississippi, impacting The Blood Center’s inventory.

“Donations made prior to the storm helped patients needing blood and blood components,” says Paul Adams, Public Relations Manager for The Blood Center. “Now we need to replenish the diminishing inventory due to lost collections. The Blood Centers needs the community to pull together by coming forward to donate now and help our neighbors.”

The Blood Center’s LaPlace Donor Center is closed indefinitely pending repairs to the building.

Donations made at any of their 12 other donation locations and mobile blood drives will go to supplying the 40 area hospital and outpatient facilities in Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.

The Blood Center needs to collect 300-350 units of blood daily.

Any healthy individual 17 years of age (or 16 with a parental consent) and over 110lbs can donate whole blood every 56 days.

Visit TheBloodCenter.org or call us at 800-86-BLOOD to schedule a donation.

Bring a photo ID and be sure to eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to your donation.
