State of Emergency declared for St. John Parish

LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom declared a state of emergency for St. John Parish as a result of severe weather system that resulted in significant impacts across the Parish including downed power lines, downed trees and extensive damage to homes.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in LaPlace.
Emergency personnel, the Office of Fire Services, the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, DOTD, Entergy are out assisting residents and assessing the Parish. Residents should dial 911 to report all emergencies and are advised to stay off of roadways.

POWER OUTAGES:
- According to Entergy, 2905 power outages in Riverlands and Belle Terre, and sporadically Parishwide
- Power outages can be reported at 1-800-9OUTAGE and can be viewed at http://viewoutage.entergy.com/
la.aspx - Residents should not touch downed power lines as they may be active.
CURFEW:
- The following areas will be under curfew from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. for the following areas that received damage:
- Cambridge
- Riverlands Subdivision including Ellerslie, Greenwood, Madewood and West Frisco
- Palmetto
- Indigo Parkway
- Belle Terre
TEMPORARY SHELTER:
- Emily C. Watkins Elementary located at 938 Hwy 628 in LaPlace is open for residents who sustained damage to their homes.
- If possible, please bring supplies, toiletries, homecare items , food and medicine to the shelter.
ROAD CLOSURES:
- US 61 between LaPlace Park and Belle Terre Blvd.
- US 61 at Tiffany Dr.
- Cambridge Dr., North of Fairway Dr. to Woodland Dr.
- Parts of Riverlands, Ellerslie, Greenwood, Madewood, Palmetto, Indigo Pkwy. until cleared
WEATHER:
- Tornado Watch until 10:00 p.m.
- Wind Advisory until 6:00 a.m
St. John Parish officials will continue to communicate with the Emergency Responders, the National Weather Service, Entergy and the 911 center for updates on power outages and parish-wide damages. Residents are encouraged to monitor communication channels, WWL 870 a.m. radio, Parish Facebook page and local news stations for updates.
