LAPLACE — After kicking and punching his girlfriend in the face, authorities said a local man is facing battery and child endangerment charges.
The case began when deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Lincoln Court in LaPlace at 9:49 Saturday following a domestic disturbance call.
The victim, a 26-year-old female, told authorities her boyfriend physically battered her.
Sheriff Mike Tregre identified the suspect as 32-year-old Tyren Dent.
Sgt. Dane Clement said the victim lived at the residence with the couple’s two children, adding Dent had a key to the residence and the children were home at the time of the reported battery.
The children were not injured.
At the scene deputies observed redness and swelling in the victim’s face. The victim was taken to Ochsner Health Center — River Parishes, where she was treated for a broken bone in her face.
The couple was discussing family matters, Clement said, before the battery occurred.
According to Clement, the victim said the discussion led to her being kicked and punched in the face.
“The couple and the children were the only ones at the residence at the time of the incident,” Clement said. “(Dent) was not at the residence when authorities arrived.”
Dent was arrested Monday at his home in LaPlace without incident and is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
Authorities said Dent is charged with domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and second-degree battery.
“A stay way order was also issued as part of the bond,” Clement said. “That is standard procedure with situations like this.”
