LAPLACE — One arrest has been made and another suspect is wanted in connection with at least two attempted car break-ins that occurred last week.
Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 200 block of Riverlands Drive in LaPlace at 8:22 p.m. Jan. 29 after receiving an attempted burglary report.
Authorities said a witness noticed two male subjects walking in the neighborhood pulling on car door handles to see if they had been left unlocked. When the complainant confronted the subjects, they fled.
One perpetrator was identified as 17-year-old Zachary McIntosh of LaPlace.
Sgt. Dane Clement said McIntosh was arrested Jan. 29 and booked with attempted simple burglary. He was released the next day on a $10,000 bond.
While in custody, Clement said McIntosh did not corporate with authorities as to the identification of the second subject.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Clement said. “We don’t have a description of the second subject.”
Clement said nothing was reported stolen from the cars, but authorities are investigating if more cars were targeted.
There is nothing to indicate the two subjects are part of a larger group at this time, Clement said.
Detectives encourage anyone with information regarding the attempted break-ins to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822- 1111.
Residents with information who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward. Residents can also submit tips at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
