HAHNVILLE — The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office was made aware Tuesday of a Hahnville High School student who had purchased fake $100 dollar bills off of the Internet and distributed them at school.

Authorities described the handout as “a joke.”

Later that day, according to a release by authorities, it was learned two other students attempted to use the fake bills — one at the Luling SONIC Drive-in and one at Hahnville High School.

Authorities said Thursday 29 of the bills have been seized, and 71 were unaccounted for.

The Sheriff’s Office is warning those in the public to be vigilant when accepting $100 bills.

The fake bill:

• Feels different

• Says “for Motion Picture Only” at the top front and on the back

• Has no security tape visible when held up to the light

Anyone who comes into contact with the fake bills is asked to contact Lt. David Ehrmann with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807.
