LUTCHER — St. James Parish Hospital is inviting community members to celebrate American Heart Month by attending its first annual Heart Smart Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27.

The heart health fair will be held in David Reynaud Medical Plaza and will offer a free day of heart screenings, activities, education and an opportunity to meet privately with a clinical cardiologist on staff at St. James Parish Hospital.

Attendees can stop by during a convenient timeframe and participate in activities as desired. Free screenings provided will include: Quick EKGs, ABIs — based on risk factors — to test circulation in the legs, cholesterol, BMIs (body mass index), blood pressure, pulse and pulse oxygen.

Activities will include the opportunity for attendees to schedule an on-the-spot result-review with cardiologist Dr. Nakash Grant from Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner. In addition, community members can participate in a five-minute healthy cooking demo (with nutrition tips), learn chair exercises, taste test food samples from the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program and enjoy heart-healthy refreshments.

While supplies last, attendees will be given a free gift to remind them the importance of always being “heart smart.”

RSVP is not required, but attendees can sign-up online at sjph.org/events in order to receive a reminder the day before the event. For more information, call 225-258-5952.
