The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning that Roddy Johnson, 23, of LaPlace was booked Thursday for the murder of Ian Robertson of Lutcher.

When detectives booked Johnson, he was in custody at the Sherman Walker Correctional Center on unrelated charges stemming from an Aug. 2 arrest. His bond was set at $250,000.

Police began their investigation after Ian Robertson, 33, of Lutcher died Sept. 14, 2014, just an hour after authorities found him shot on the ground.

“It appears this incident could be domestic,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said at that time, adding the victim and shooter definitely knew each other. “This was not a random act.”

Back in 2014, Tregre told L’OBSERVATEUR that detectives were waiting on forensic testing results to aid in the investigation. No suspects were announced at the time.

Deputies first responded to the intersection of Revere Drive and Essex Drive in LaPlace at 12:35 a.m. following a call of someone shot.

“Deputies arrived to find a male subject with a gunshot wound and admitted CPR to the victim until EMTs arrived,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “The victim was transported to River Parishes Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at 1:35 a.m.”

Authorities said no one else was injured in the shooting.
