LAPLACE — A sudden medical attack may have caused a violent wreck in St. John the Baptist Parish that resulted in the death of a motorist Friday afternoon.
Louisiana State Police Troop B Spokeswoman Melissa Matey said 58-year-old Adrian Baudry III of New Orleans died after the 18-wheeler he was driving crashed on Interstate 10 East at mile post 208.5 at approximately 2 p.m. Friday.
Preliminary investigation revealed Baudry was driving a 2008 Volvo tractor/trailer east on I-10 and ran off the road to the right, traveling through a grassy area and striking a tree.
Matey said investigators are determining what lane of traffic Baudry was in when the vehicle lost control, adding no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
“(Baudry) was pronounced dead on the scene, but as far as if he was dead (when authorities arrived,) that is part of the investigation,” Matey said. “I don’t know if we would be able to determine that.”
Authorities do not believe speed or impairment are suspected wreck factors.
“We look at multiple different factors,” Matey said. “We look at whether there was evasive action, breaking.”
Authorities announced Friday night they believe a medical condition may have been a factor.
An autopsy is pending, which Matey said is standard procedure, adding the investigation should be complete in eight weeks.
