RESERVE — Two local teenagers were struck by gunfire Monday evening, authorities said.

A 15- year-old male and a 16-year-old male each sustained a graze wound, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said, adding emergency medical services brought both victims to Ochsner Medical Complex-River Parishes emergency room for treatment.

No one else was injured.

The wounded victims and a 16-year-old male friend told deputies they were outside at the rear of a house in the 600 block of Northwest 2nd Street in Reserve when they saw a group of approximately ten people on the nearby railroad tracks.

“The three juveniles said gunshots were fired from the group, and they ran to the other side of the house for safety,” Tregre said.

“A 35-year-old female victim told deputies she was in the house with her 9-year-old daughter when she heard what she thought was fireworks, but she quickly realized it was gunshots. Her house was hit with gunshots, one gunshot breaking a window. Neither she nor her daughter were injured.”

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Those who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward. Residents can also submit tips at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
