NORCO — The River Region Drama Guild is hosting the Young Actors Workshop for all children between 8 and 15.
Organizers encourage all to come work in a fun and playful workshop and connect with real talents for spontaneous play and real connections between fellow players.
“It’s great for beginners and accomplished actors alike,” a release from the Guild said.
“These skills will help you access and refine your natural talents for the stage and beyond.”
Theater games are the foundation of Improvisation and play is at the core of all theater. There are games to free the actor’s tension, games to cleanse the actor of subjective preconceptions of the meaning of words, games of relationship and character, games of concentration — in short, games for each of the areas with which the growing actor is concerned.
Theater games motivate children to think in new ways and move in new directions to explore their relation to each other, themselves and their environment. Playing theater games helps to draw out the natural intelligence and humor inherent in each student, creating opportunities to explore unique abilities.
The theater workshop runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday mornings for four Saturdays beginning Jan. 9 and ending Jan. 30 at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center, 15146 River Road in Norco.
A final performance will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 30 at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center.
For more information, call Henry Sorbet at 504-331-0990. Preregistration is not required.
The workshop is sponsored by the United Way of St. Charles and the Arts Council of New Orleans and is free to all participants.
