BATON ROUGE — Louisiana State Police Troops B and C, which split coverage of St. John the Baptist Parish, welcomed 19 new troopers last week as part of the graduation of Louisiana State Police Cadet Class.
State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson was joined by Governor Bobby Jindal in announcing the cadets Thursday at the BREC Independence Park Theatre and Cultural Center in Baton Rouge.
On Aug. 30, 80 cadets from across the state began the arduous Louisiana State Police Training Academy.
Throughout the academy, cadets received training in various subjects including crash investigation, emergency vehicle operations, impaired driving detection, traffic incident management, and leadership in addition to a rigorous physical training regimen.
Having completed the LSP Training Academy, the newly graduated Troopers will deploy across the state where they will participate in a 12-14 week field-training program while supervised by a senior Louisiana State Trooper.
Cadet Class No. 94 is the third State Police cadet class to graduate since May of 2014.
“These remarkable men and women have made a decision to embark on a lifetime of public service knowing the extraordinary risks with their chosen profession,” Colonel Edmonson said. “The badge they wear is a testament to the hard work, personal sacrifices, and dedication they have put forth towards becoming Louisiana State Troopers. Nonetheless, the privilege of wearing the LSP gold badge must be continually earned as they will be held to the highest standards of honor, integrity, respect, and service as they continue the proud tradition of the Louisiana State Police.”
