GARYVILLE — A LaPlace woman died Friday evening, the result of a two-vehicle wreck on Airline Highway, authorities said.
Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of the fatal crash shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. 61 at Sugarcane Road in Garyville that claimed the life of 66-year-old Ora Williams Duhe of LaPlace.
Louisiana State Police Troop B spokeswoman Melissa Matey said preliminary investigation revealed Duhe was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima south on U.S. 61 in the right lane approaching Sugarcane Road. At the same time, a 2008 Dodge Ram truck, driven by Eugne Yujiro Howard, 37, of Baton Rouge, was stopped at a stop sign on Sugarcane Road.
“The Dodge Ram proceeded to turn north onto U.S. 61 and was impacted by the Nissan on the driver’s side,” Matey said. “Duhe was pronounced dead on the scene, and Troopers determined that she was not wearing her seat belt.”
Matey said witness statements indicate the Nissan did not have headlights or parking lights illuminated.
Howard suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Impairment is not suspected, and the crash remains under investigation, according to Matey.
