St. James Parish teams advance

Forgive St. James Parish football fans for looking just a bit ahead this week.
Both Lutcher and St. James survived last week’s quarterfinal round of the Class 3A playoffs to reach the semifinals. Lutcher, the No. 1 seed in the bracket, will host No. 13 West Feliciana Friday night at the Dog Yard in Lutcher. St. James, the No. 15 seed, will travel to Amite to play the No. 11 seeded Warriors.
If both teams win, each would advance to the Class 3A championship game to be played Saturday at noon Dec. 12, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, Dec. 12 at noon, creating one heck of a traffic jam on I-10 East.
The Lutcher-St. James rivalry dates back to 1971. The teams played each other every year until the 2005 reclassification year. Reclassification reunited the two this year, with Lutcher taking a 32-0 victory over the Wildcats. A rematch would be the third time the teams met in the playoffs, but the first with a state title on the line.
