Keller: There’s plenty to be thankful for on Turkey Day

Published 12:05 am Wednesday, November 25, 2015

This is one Thanksgiving that I can safely say what the majority of people in St. John the Baptist Parish are thankful for, that being, the elections are finally over.

I’m sure the winners are excited and, hopefully, looking forward to serving the public as true public servants.

The losers are disappointed, but equally as happy that all the politicking has come to an end.

As for myself, I took an active part with the candidates of my choice.

Yes, I’m disappointed that most of the candidates I supported didn’t win.

No, I’m not sorry that I got involved.

I’ve always said that when you get involved, if you’re not a better person regardless of the outcome, you’ve wasted your time.

No, I didn’t waste my time. I developed new relationships and encouraged people who sought public office.

Many people who questioned my selection of candidates are afraid to step forward and let their choices be known.

That’s their privilege, and I respect it but feel sorry for them for being afraid to express themselves.

As I approach Thanksgiving Day, I’m most thankful for my freedom — freedom from fear of man, religion, guilt, false security, physical death, sickness, etc.

If you are a Christian, Jesus came to set us free.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
