Attempted murder arrest after shotgun blast to the face

CONVENT — A Vacherie man is behind bars, charged with attempted second-degree murder after authorities said he shot a man in the face.
St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. said his office received an emergency call at 3:51 a.m. Nov. 6 regarding a shooting outside a residence at 23077 Pine St. in Vacherie.
“The caller stated that Rogerelle Simon had been shot in the face and was being taken to St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher,” Martin said. “Detectives investigating the shooting discovered that Rogerelle Simon had been shot on the right side of his face with a shotgun.”
Martin said the victim was stabilized at the hospital and transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, where he was treated and released.
Through their investigation, Martin said deputies arrested Dacein Braxton, 30, of Vacherie, Friday, charging him with attempted second-degree murder.
Braxton is being held at St. James Parish Jail in Convent, and his bond is set at $250,000.
