LULING — Valero St. Charles Refinery announced it raised more than $1M for United Way of St. Charles and its partner agencies. This marks the first time in the non-profit’s 60-year history that a single organization donated in excess of $1,00,000 through the annual fundraising campaign.

“I am proud to be associated with the most giving employees any company could wish for,” said Ralph Phillip, vice president and general manager of Valero St. Charles Refinery. “They willingly give of their time, energy and funds for the most worthy cause.”

Each year, Valero and its employees make pledges to support the United Way through donations or ongoing payroll deductions. Valero St. Charles frequently achieves 100 percent participation, as well as the highest per capita giving levels among St. Charles Parish employers.

United Way of St. Charles Executive Director John Dias said United Way is humbled and inspired by the “extreme generosity” of Valero and its employees.

“Raising over a million dollars is no small feat and an accomplishment to be quite proud of,” Dias said. “Children, adults and seniors in St. Charles Parish will have their lives directly impacted by the kindness of this extraordinary achievement.”

In the past five years, Valero St. Charles Refinery has contributed more than $4.7 million to United Way of St. Charles.
