RIVER RIDGE – The St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets (19-19) played one of their toughest games of the season Monday night, dropping a hotly contested playoff matchup to the John Curtis Christian Lady Patriots (25-15).

John Curtis defeated SCC 3-1 by scores of 25-11, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-22.

“Our girls did an amazing job (Monday),” St. Charles Catholic head volleyball coach Meghan Ericksen said. “We’ve played John Curtis before, and they have always beaten us. This was the best we have ever played against them, and I’m really proud of what our girls have done.”

Ericksen said although the Lady Comets are finished for the season, she is satisfied with the way it ended.

“I told the girls to be happy while they are playing,” Ericksen said. “Whenever they are having fun, they play very well. I can’t ask for much more than that.”

Ericksen said one player really stood out – sophomore Grace Mohon.

“Grace played exceptionally well (Monday),” Ericksen said. “We switched her position quite a bit, and everywhere she was playing, she did really well.”

Mohon finished Monday with six kills and 14 digs. Maddie Murphy added 13 assists and nine digs. Lela Hill had five kills. Alyssa Arceneaux connected on two kills and logged 38 digs, and Lexi Tran added one kill and six digs.

Ericksen said the Lady Comets played hard in all aspects of the game.

“They were really on it,” Ericksen said. “Our seniors were out there having fun, playing hard. I told them that we had nothing to lose, and they played like it. I am very happy with how our season played out.”
