Report: Robottom says payments to daughter violated campaign law

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom repaid money Friday to her campaign that was originally and illegally paid to her daughter, according to a report in The New Orleans Advocate.

The report said Robottom paid her daughter about $5,000 from her campaign coffers before the Oct. 24 primary, according to her campaign finance filings.

Robottom said she repaid the money Friday, acknowledged the mistake and said the restriction against campaign payments to immediate family members was something she was unfamiliar with.

Saturday, Robottom posted on her Facebook page, “Don’t be distracted by the money or the attacks! The election for Parish President is simple: Good vs Evil Right vs Wrong and Past vs Future – Early Vote today for #76 – Natalie Robottom!”

Robottom told the Advocate her campaign contacted Louisiana Board of Ethics staff members.
