Kaitlyn Thompson named Hurst Student of the Year

Destrehan — Kaitlyn Thompson has been selected as the Harry Hurst Middle 2015–16 Student of the Year.
Kaitlyn was chosen from 17 finalists who had to meet a certain criteria, including grade point average, extracurricular activities, community involvement and achievement.
Each student interviewed before a panel of judges for the honor. Kaitlyn was chosen for her commitment to academics, school involvement and community awareness. She is the daughter of Paul and Michelle Guidry.
She is in the Gifted and Talented Theater programs. Kaitlyn is a selected member of the Duke Talent Identification Program, where she received State recognition on three categories of ACT.
She has participated on the volleyball team, was a cheerleader for two years, plays percussion in the Hurst Band and now performs as a member of the Runnerette Dance Team.
Kaitlyn enjoys participating in the school’s Beta Club and is a dedicated volunteer for the Wetland Watchers Service-Learning Project.
