BOUTTE — It was another game and another loss for the East St. John Wildcats (0-7).
ESJ lost its seventh consecutive game Friday night, this one at the hands of the Hahnville High School Tigers (4-3).
“It’s the same old thing,” ESJ head football coach Alden Foster said. “We just keep on making the same crucial mistakes.”
It seemed critical mistakes were the theme for the night. Hahnville scored six touchdowns and jumped to a 42-0 lead at halftime.
Tiger running back Norquell Flowers scored Hahnville’s first touchdown of the night from the two yard line.
ESJ went three and out on its first possession.
LSU wide receiver commitment Da’monte Coxie caught a ball from quarterback Marquise Darensbourg and ran 10 yards, but ESJ needed 25 yards for a first down.
Six minutes before the half, Hahnville led 28-0.
Darensbourg threw to Da’monte Coxie on consecutive plays and left with back-to-back incompletions.
Tiger quarterback Mike Neal threw for two more touchdowns and Hahnville closed out the first half leading 42-0.
“We just had a real slow start in the first half,” Foster said.
Coxie tried to redeem the team in the second half with a diving 27-yard touchdown catch, scoring the first touchdown of the game for the Wildcats. He then pulled in a 45-yard reception.
Coxie’s efforts weren’t enough to knock Hahnville down. Neal threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cade Miguez, bringing the score to 49-8.
Darensbourg passed to wide receiver AJ Long for a nine-yard touchdown, inching the score to 49-15.
“We tried to come back hard at the end,” said Foster. “But it was too little, too late.”
Coxie nearly scored with a 45 yard catch from Darensbourg, but was stopped short on the one yard line.
Darensbourg tried a quarterback sneak, but Hahnville halted the play six inches from the goal line.
