Time is now for St. John Parish voters

The next few weeks are going to provide a wonderful opportunity for residents in St. John the Baptist Parish.
Those who yearn to have their voices heard and provide direction to how our local government works need only apply themselves during the current election cycle.
Election day is Oct. 24, but the first date we all must remember comes this Wednesday/Sept. 23, which is the last day residents can register to vote and still participate in this fall’s election.
And, wow, this is an election to participate in. Local contested races include parish president, assessor, sheriff, all council seats, justice of the peace district 3 and two BESE seats.
We encourage readers to keep checking future editions of L’OBSERVATEUR as your election guide.
A “Meet the Candidates” special section will publish Wednesday and include comment from those who have thrown their names into the St. John Parish political arena. Early voting for Oct. 24’s election takes place Oct. 10-17 at the Registrar of Voters Office inside the Percy Hebert Building in LaPlace and at the Edgard Courthouse.
Seniors, individuals with mobility impairments, students and residents who will be out-of-town for the election can vote by mail.
Those who want to obtain mail-in ballots should contact the Registrar of Voters Office at 985-652-9797 to file a request.
