RESERVE — Two-star recruit Dontrell Allen has returned to the East St. John Wildcats football team after being deemed ineligible to play for East Jefferson High School two weeks ago.

Allen, who only this summer committed to Mississippi State, is a speedy cornerback and one of the fastest sprinters in the state who worked out with the Wildcats all summer before attempting to transfer to East Jefferson right around the time the school year started.

However, the LHSAA ruled Allen ineligible to play athletics at East Jefferson, resulting in his move back to East St. John.

“He is extremely excited to get back,” East St. John head coach Alden Foster said. “You are talking about a kid that worked his butt off this summer and then unfortunately all of that other stuff came along.”

Allen was in jeopardy of missing out on his senior year of football if he went ahead with the move to East Jefferson.

“It is important for you to enjoy your senior year because it is very special,” Foster said. “That was one of the things. It was that and being able to experience senior night and all of those things that come along with it.”

The Wildcats, who are 0-2 in lopsided losses, are expecting Allen, who before the season began was also slotted to play running back, to be an asset to the team right away.

For Allen, he said he is just happy to be back on the field and is looking toward the future.

“It is time to get the team together and win,” Allen said.
