LAPLACE — Two men were shot in LaPlace Tuesday night, authorities said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies first responded to the 300 block of West 2nd Street in LaPlace at 9:14 p.m. after gunshots were heard in the area.

A 43-year-old male victim was found with gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

The victim was taken to a New Orleans-area hospital for treatment, Sheriff Mike Tregre said, adding his condition is unknown.

Deputies also responded to the 1400 block of Cambridge Drive in LaPlace after a second shooting victim reported he was shot on West 2nd Street.

“The victim fled the residence and drove himself to the Cambridge address,” Tregre said. “Deputies identified the second victim as a 49-year-old LaPlace man.”

Emergency medical services took the LaPlace man to a New Orleans-area hospital for treatment, and his condition is unknown.

Authorities said the West 2nd Street victim told deputies the shooter’s face was covered.

“Investigators do not believe that this incident was a random act,” Tregre said.

Anyone with information regarding the shootings is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
