LAPLACE — The report of a battered pregnant woman Friday led authorities to make three arrests, including charges of drug dealing and burglary.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at 6:26 p.m. Friday to the Ochsner Medical Complex-River Parishes emergency room for a domestic battery report.

The 18-year-old female victim told deputies D’Angelo Kelson, 17, her boyfriend of two years and father of her unborn child, slapped her, shoved her to the ground and kicked her in the back, Sheriff Mike Tregre said in a release.

The unborn child appeared uninjured; however, and the victim was transferred to a New Orleans-area hospital for further observation.

Deputies went to a residence in the 500 block of Monticello Court in LaPlace where the couple live to investigate the complaint.

“When deputies arrived at the residence to talk to Kelson, deputies could smell the odor of marijuana at the front door,” Tregre said. “When Kelson opened the door and saw the deputies, he closed the door abruptly. Deputies pursued Kelson in the residence and arrested him for domestic battery.”

Kelson told deputies he and his girlfriend were arguing and he “accidentally slapped her in the face,” adding he pushed her only to get her out of his face, not realizing he used such force to cause her to fall to the ground.

Kelson denied kicking the victim, Tregre said.

Deputies asked Kelson if he had any marijuana in his possession. Before Kelson could respond, his mother, Jeanette Kelson, 38, interrupted and said she “smoked some weed earlier,” according to Tregre.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and recovered approximately $3,000 worth of marijuana, drug paraphernalia used in the distribution of marijuana, a handgun and ammunition for the handgun, Tregre said.

A computer check on the handgun revealed it was reported stolen from Jefferson Parish.

Deputies booked Jeanette Kelson with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, illegal carrying of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance and resisting a deputy.

She bonded out Sunday on a $28,000 bond.

D’Angelo Kelson previously reported to authorities he was the victim of an armed robbery Wednesday that left him shot in the hand.

On Saturday, just after midnight, deputies responded to Kelson’s Monticello Court address after gunshots were heard and the front glass door shattered. Deputies identified a female at the residence as Patricia Kelson, 22. She told deputies she and her three children, ages 3, 5, and 6 years old, were in the house when shots were fired.

No one was injured.

Deputies arrested Patricia Kelson and booked her on five outstanding attachments for contempt of court. She bonded out of jail Monday on a $950 bond.

Later Saturday at 6:55 pm, deputies again responded to the Kelson’s Monticello Court address for a burglary report.

Tregre said one of Jeanette Kelson’s friends told deputies Kelson asked her to check on the house while she was in jail. She told deputies when she checked on the house at 6:55 p.m., she noticed a window open and more than one prescription bottle missing from the living room coffee table.

At 8:55 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to Monticello Court address again for a burglary rpeort. The complainant noticed the front door ajar and reported four televisions were stolen.

“The incidents involving the Kelson family are very concerning and are being actively investigated,” Tregre said. “Without the full cooperation of the victims, investigators seek information from the public.”
