St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said Jones was stopped at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West Airline Highway and Belle Terre Boulevard.

“The deputy saw Jones stopped on West Airline Highway and slumped over the steering wheel,” Tregre said in a release. “Jones was stopped at the traffic signal that indicated a green signal.”

The deputy knocked on the driver’s side window to wake the driver, but was unsuccessful.

“It was not until the deputy opened the door and shook the driver that he woke,” Tregre said. “The driver smelled of alcoholic beverage and performed poorly on the standard field sobriety test.”

Jones was booked with 4th offense DWI, obstructing public passages, driver must be licensed and two outstanding bench warrants for St. John the Baptist Parish. He remains in custody in lieu of a $35,850 bond.
