RESERVE — Authorities said a 55-year-old local woman took back eletrconics equipment from the very hands of her would-be burglar after recognizing the crime in progress.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Dave Street in Reserve at 3:28 p.m. Sunday following an unsecured truck burglary report.

“The victim, a 55-year-old woman, from LaPlace told deputies that she confronted the 15-year-old male perpetrator during the burglary and took her laptop out of his hands,” Tregre said in a release. “She was not injured.”

The victim told deputies the perpetrator told her he thought the truck was abandoned and the items in it did not belong to anyone.

Deputies located and arrested a 15-year-old suspect at his residence on Dave Street, booking him with simple burglary. The suspect was released to the custody of his mother.
