EDGARD — The West St. John Stakeholders organization is sponsoring a one-day event focusing on community, educational and employment resources Saturday for residents of the West Bank.
This year’s theme is “Building a Better Future for Our Youth.” Attendees will have the opportunity to speak face-to-face with leaders of local schools, businesses and local service organizations.
Represen-tatives for the following will be present: Creole Farmers Market, high school, college, technical college personnel, journalism and culinary arts schools, law enforcement, legal assistance, tourism sites, health centers, film services, recreation services, entrepreneurial assistance and business owners from Lucy, Edgard, Wallace and Pleasure Bend.
Special presentations will be made this year to honor St. John Parish heroes Dr. Henry Yale Harris, a renowned educator and social activist, and Corporal Anthony Miller, of the U.S. Army who gave his life in the Vietnam War.
A very special “Shout Out” will go to the 2015 seniors of West St. John High School.
“We are so very proud of the 2015 graduating class of West St. John,” WSJ Stakeholders spokeswoman Nora Pierre said. “Every single graduate has confirmed plans to further his and her education by enrolling in college, vo-tech training or in the military. This is a great achievement, and we need to recognize the students, their parents and families and their educators, all of whom made this happen.”
Along with the displays and presentations, Saturday’s event includes Kids Corner activities and a Food Court with free food and refreshments.
School supplies and door prizes will also be distributed.
This Education Event takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the West St. John High School Gym.
All ages are invited.
