St. John Parish 7-, 8- and 14-year-old All Stars victorious in state tournament

RESERVE — St. John Parish’s 7-, 8- and 14-year-old All Stars were all victorious in competition in the state tournament last weekend at REGALA Park in Reserve and were crowned Louisiana Dizzy Dean State Champions.

With the advantage of beautiful weather, the park was electric with players, parents, coaches and fans enjoying the baseball games throughout the weekend.

The 7-year-old Warriors finished tournament play with a 2-0 record, which qualifies them to compete Saturday and Sunday at the World Series in Southaven, Miss.

After contending tirelessly in extra innings, the 14-year-old Warriors pulled off a victory in the championship game. They will advance to the World Series Tournament scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The 8-year-old Warriors were undefeated against Plaquemines, qualifying them to compete in the World Series July 22-23.

“I am proud to say that the tournament was a great success,” Parks & Recreation Director Kerry Watkins said. “It also gave surrounding communities a chance to come in, see what we have and enjoy it. We received compliments throughout the weekend, which only pushes us to continue striving to get better.”

The Warriors received bids for state tournament play based on their winning records at the United States Specialty Sports Association summer tournaments.

“Congratulations to all of the teams for their continuous hard work and success throughout the season,” Parish President Natalie Robottom said. “We wish the 7-, 8- and 14-year-old Warriors the best of luck and know they will represent St. John well at the World Series.”
