Dr. Ivan Gill, a geoscientist and science education coordinator in UNO’s College of Education and Human Development, runs the camp and accompanied the students, along with his assistant Natalie Praetorius.

David Esquibel was the Shell representative present.

The students were provided a hands-on experience with plant equipment and process operations. Instructor David Hymel provided the students an understanding of valves, instrumentation and piping in the methanol plant.

The students also received a tour of the glass lab with Instructor Jimmy Stein and were shown how a basic tank and pump system works using a simtronics simulator by Instructor Wayne Adams.

SCLTC Department Head Jerry Layne said he hopes the experience sparks the interest of students and leads them to technical opportunities and careers.
