RESERVE — A poker run and horseshoe and washer board tournament, as well as a weekend of food and prizes, are planned July 18 and 19 at Airborne in Reserve to benefit 1-year-old Alyse Hope Volion.

Alyse, the daughter of Dustin and Casey Volion of Paulina, was diagnosed April 27 with Medulloblastoma. Dustin said she has undergone four surgeries and is in her second of six rounds of chemotherapy.

She will require maintenance chemo until she is 3, Dustin said, and then will require radiation therapy.

The benefit is being held to help pay medical expenses for the family.

“The community has been phenomenal,” Dustin said. “Everybody has been very supportive.”

Dustin said it is humbling to receive help — “I’m not a handout person,” he said — but added he appreciated the support from the community and his St. Joseph’s Catholic Church family.

A poker run begins at 11 a.m. July 18 from Airborne, located at 1504 River Road in Reserve. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the fee for each rider is $20.

Volunteers begin serving jambalaya and white beans at noon, and organizers said there will be a parade of prizes all day.

On July 19, food — including homemade chili, hamburgers and hot dogs — will be served at 11 a.m., and a horseshoe tournament starts at 12:30 p.m.

A washer board tournament will start at 2:30 p.m., and each tournament has a $10-per-person fee.

Organizers said prize winners will be drawn at 5 p.m. July 19, and the winner does not need to be present to win.
