Tell your story in your newspaper

There is no better place to share your opinion or your story than the pages of L’OBSERVATEUR.

For more than 100 years, generations of locally committed staff members have served St. John the Baptist Parish and the greater River Region by consistently telling your stories.

Many have been heart-warming, some have been funny, too many have been tragic and others have been downright controversial.

This newspaper will remain the community’s chief media tool, and in doing so, we remind you to use us as a way to share your story and opinion.

When the newspaper published a story June 20 about a Reserve bauxite plant’s plan to begin operations, Reserve resident Gerald Keller responded with a “letter to the editor” June 27 questioning the operation and support from local leaders.

In this edition below, LaPlace resident Glenn Sellars questions the newspaper’s coverage of last week’s same-sex marriage license news.

All opinions are welcome when shared in a professional and respectful manner.

It also doesn’t have to be strictly about controversial subjects.

L’OBSERVATEUR publishes a “Looks Bright” feature each Saturday (usually on the front page) highlighting the positive impact youth or youth-based programs are making in our community, and Wednesday’s weekly feature, “Giving Back,” shines a light on the people, businesses and organizations looking beyond individual goals to a greater good.

If you have a suggestion about how your story or that of someone you know fits those descriptions, please share them with us by calling 985-652-9545.

This is your newspaper, and it’s your stories we wish to keep telling.
